Job Overview

Our client in New York City has an excellent opportunity for a Senior Cloud Compute Engineer (GCP – Google Cloud Platform), Technical Lead!

 

Responsibilities:

  • Advocate and define cloud architecture vision from a strategic perspective, including internal and external platforms, tools, and systems.
  • Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across the business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements of financial research and high-performance computing.
  • Demonstrate forward-thinking around where the research technology is going and how cloud technology can support these efforts.
  • Technical leadership in designing, implementing, and managing a large-scale, resilient, multi-tenant R&D environment utilizing cloud technologies.
  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other cloud services.
  • Lead the definition and development of cloud reference architecture and management systems.
  • Design, maintain and expand research computing environment using HPC technologies.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external business partners to support their workloads in the public Cloud.
  • Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners.

 

Requirements:

  • Experience spanning at least two IT disciplines, including technical architecture, network management, application development, HPC, or operations.
  • Strong client-facing communication skills. This is a highly visible position in an environment that can be very dynamic at times.
  • Experience with managing HPC workloads in public clouds, particularly GCP and AWS.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud architecture and implementation features (OS, multi-tenancy, virtualization, orchestration, elastic scalability).
  • Expert understanding of OS concepts and internals of Linux, Intel-based hardware and server components.
  • Understanding of and experience in infrastructure-as-code practices. Daily use of and contribution to developing automation and monitoring tools, such as configuration management, source control, CI/CD, automated deployment.
  • Expert knowledge of Python, and Bash, knowledge of Go and Perl a plus.
  • Experience with DevOps tools such as SaltStack, Cfengine, Ansible, Terraform.
  • Experience with HPC tools such as HTCondor, SLURM, GridEngine, Nomad or Mesos.
  • Understanding of server-side networking and typical network and routing protocols.
  • Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and/or client/server systems.
