Sr. SQL Database Administrator

Job Overview
Our client in the Summit area of NJ has an excellent opportunity for a Sr. SQL DBA!    


  • Responsible for database design and issues impacting database functionality, security, and availability.
  • Plans and implements database upgrades or migration projects.
  • Works with other DBAs on best practices.
  • Makes recommendations on issues affecting databases with minimal managerial supervision.
  • Identifies database requirements by evaluating existing systems and designing proposed systems.
  • Recommends solutions by defining database physical structure and functional capabilities.
  • Responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and periodically testing backup and recovery plan for databases, locally and remotely.
  • Requires performance tuning on packages and ability to provide insight on data structures/usage.
  • Installs revised or new systems by proposing specifications and flowcharts; recommending optimum access techniques.
  • Coordinates installation, patches, and maintenance of database versions as required.
  • Maintains and monitors database performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters.
  • Maintains quality service by establishing and enforcing sound and consistent database standards.
  • Performs tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity.
  • Ensures high availability of database environments, quickly respond to and diagnose problems.
  • Acts as an escalation point for any project or issue enterprise database related.
  • Works closely with the DBA Manager.



  • Bachelor Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent related technical field.
  • 5 plus years DBA experience with Microsoft SQL Server 2008+, Oracle experience a plus.
  • Experience with advanced database replication and high-availability methods for distributed access and disaster recovery.
  • Appropriate Database Administration Certifications.
  • Experience with Database Cloud technologies a plus.
  • Experience in a regulated environment preferred.
  • Extensive experience and understanding of relational databases and Database Administration.
  • Hands-on data analysis, tuning, security, design, debugging and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to effectively convey complex information.
  • Ability to fully document technical specifications and related project or systems-level documentation.
  • Experience with clustered databases, database replication or mirroring.
  • Experience with server administration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to prioritize workload effectively and work effectively under pressure and with a high degree of independence.
  • Ability to interface and collaborate with developers, peers, and management to troubleshoot issues and develop solutions.
  • Critical thinking skills, ability to accurately analyze information and make sound decisions.
  • Must be versatile, flexible, and proactive when resolving technical issues.
  • Ability to handle diverse situations and rapidly changing priorities with deadlines.
